Green Tea Offsets Effects Of Deep Fatigue

A new Japanese study shows EGCG, an extract of green tea, protecting against oxidative stress in individuals with deep accumulated fatigue. The compound was administered to animals subjected to exhaustion, and within five days their stress markers were reduced, according to research published in the journal Nutrition.

The study’s authors pointed out that specific situational fatigue is relieved by rest. But unrelenting fatigue, experienced over long periods, is different. Long term fatigue, not relieved by rest, can damage the liver and other organs irreversibly. The pressures of modern life, linked to toxicity and obesity, could potentially be ameliorated by this beneficial compound.

Protection against “oxidative insult ” to the liver may be key to the assist green tea provides for the modern workaholic lifestyle, the researchers noted. The liver is the body’s primary defense against toxic compounds.

Green tea has been shown to protect against Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, diseases linked to toxicity. Obesity, another condition that benefits from green tea, is also characterized by an overload of toxins produced by excess abdominal fat. Even weight loss can expose the body to toxic overload as the body dumps toxins stored in fat cells.

Green tea has four times the antioxidant compounds found in black tea. It is also associated with benefits for the heart and for oral health.
